Ancienne famille française, appartenant au consul du Puy, répartie au cours des siècles dans différentes régions d'Europe. Bertrand était vicaire de la « collégiale de St-Georges » en 1304 ; Jehan, consul du Puy, en 1364 ; Jacques, bourgeois du Puy, fait construire l'église des Jacobins, la chapelle St-Roch et Ste-Madeleine, où, peu après, en 1380, messer Bertrand du Guesclin, comte de Longueville, est inhumé. Son neveu, le noble Jacques, fils de feu Guigon Davis, est mentionné dans un "compoix" de 1408. Par la suite, on note : Guigom, consul du Puy, en 1478 ; Jacques, seigneur de Chanceaux et Fieu (1523), docteur en droit et juge royal du Velay (1525-1544) ; dix capitaines du Puy (1525-1530) ; un "maître des requêtes ordinaires" du duc d'Orléans (1679). D'autres branches de la famille fleurissent également à Monistrol-sur-Loire, dans le Forez, où elle possède les seigneuries de la Maisonforte et de Marclop
