Famiglia siciliana, di chiara ed avita nobiltà, la quale ebbe in possesso numerosissimi feudi, in tale regione. La si vuole originaria di Nola, passata verso la fine del secolo XVI in Palermo, ove godette nobiltà, possedendo il marchesato di "Tortorici delli Graniti". Don Alvaro di De Castro, possedé la Baronia dei Pulci, ebbe anche dal Re Alfonso, la Castellania del Castello di Noto, di cui, dopò la sua morte, se ne investì il di lui figlio don Pietro, nel 1471. Costui ebbe per moglie Ximena de Corellas, figlia di Ximemio Perez de Corellas, cavalier calatano, pieno di molte ricchezze, con le quali nel 1445 comprò la città di Mazara. Con questa Ximane don Pietro procreò don Alvaro, e don Giovanni di De Castro, che militarono sotto il Re Cattolico Ferdinando.
