Il Galluppi vuole che questa illustre famiglia, sia stata portata in Messina da Raniero De Donato, figlio di Sinibaldo e nipote di Corso De Donato. Un Tommaso fu giudice straticoziale di Messina negli anni 1507-8, 1510-11, 1522-23; un dottor Francesco fu sindaco di Messina nel 1741-43; un Antonino fu console nobile del mare in detta città nel 1745-46; un Saverio, barone dell'ufficio di portulanotto di Girgenti, fu primo barone di Migliardo in sua famiglia, come figlio di Beatrice Campagna; baronia che all'abolizione della feudalità troviamo in potere del figlio di lui, Stefano De Donato, per investitura del 18 dicembre 1797. Con Decreto del 4 luglio 1928 vennero riconosciuti a favore di Luigi De Donato, di Francesco, i titoli di nobile dei baroni di Migliardo e nobile di Reggio Calabria, titoli che con decreto del 25 novembre 1929 vennero riconosciuti al signor Antonino De Donato. La famiglia è iscritta nel Libro
