Antigua y muy noble familia ligur, con residencia en Recco, donde ya está presente en el siglo X IV, según afirman los genealogistas Ganduccio, Gniscardi y Della Cella, repartida a lo largo de los siglos en varias regiones de Italia. Los miembros de la familia se encuentran, ya en el siglo XVI, entre los "mercatores nigri", en la persona de Donato y Lodisio, mientras que entre los "artifices nigri" encontramos a Agustín. En 1528, los De Marchi fueron adscritos a la nobleza en el Hotel De Marini, en la persona de Stefano Agostino, Nicolò, Gregorio, Donato, Gio Francesco, Pietro Simone, Gio Stefano, Paolo Antonio, Lorenzo, Barnaba y Bernardo . Rafael era anciano en los años 1545, 1549, 1551 mientras era vicario en La Spezia en 1550 y también capitán de galeras.
