Antica ed assai nobile famiglia spagnola, conosciuta come Prado o De Prado, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni europee. Un cospicuo ramo del casato giunse nel Regno di Napoli e, più precisamente, in Sicilia, con un Pietro di Prado di Salum nel regno di Leone, il quale si stabilì in Palermo. Ivi, sposò una dama Galletti ed ebbe la carica di capitano giustiziere nel 1564-65, 1570-71 e 1578-79. Un Benedetto, invece, fu senatore in Palermo negli anni 1616 e 1617-18; un Lorenzo tenne la stessa carica nell’anno 1620-21; un Diego, ottenne infeudazione del feudo Trifiletti nel 1658. Da una analisi cromatica e simbolica dello stemma, possiamo ricavare alcune importanti informazioni sulle virtù associate a tal cognome.
