Nobilissimo casato astigiano, detto De Regibus, Deregibus o Re, il quale appartiene al gruppo di famiglie nobili astigiane, raggruppate nelle Casane astigiane, che in seguito al commercio ed all'attività feneratizia in tutta l'Europa occidentale, si arricchirono notevolmente, contribuendo di conseguenza all'espansione del Comune astigiano nel periodo medievale. Di probabile origine manfredingia, la famiglia discenderebbe dal consortile di Canelli. Il patronimico "Rex" compare in un documento delle carte dell'Archivio Capitolare di Asti del 19 ottobre 1180 in cui Oberto Re vendette al fratello Giovanni i propri terreni in "Ripa Rupta" (Viatosto) dalla Chiesa di Asti". Di fazione ghibellina, i De Regibus possedevano un palazzo casaforte, in Asti, sin dal XIII secolo, sito davanti alla Chiesa di Sant'Anastasio, in Corso Alfieri. Una delle tre torri del palazzo, ancor oggi, può essere ammirata, insieme ad i caratteristici stemmi a scacchiera del casato. Il primo personaggio della famiglia ad apparire con una carica pubblica
