Antica famiglia messinese, detta De Stefani o De Stefano, nota sin dal XV secolo. Girolamo fu giudice straticoziale di Messina nel 1650/1 e della Gran Corte Criminale del Regno nel 1652/3; Guglielmo, con privilegio dato in Madrid il 7 marzo 1710 reso esecutivo in Messina il 15 gennaio 1711, ottenne la concessione del titolo di duca di San Lorenzo; Carlo Luigi, figlio del precedente, duca di san Lorenzo, “regio cavaliere” per lettere osservatoriali del 7 dicembre 1726, fu proconservatore in Scicli nell’anno 1734; Giuseppe fu senatore di Messina nel 1737/8; Antonino acquistò nel 1787 il feudo San Lorenzo; Antonino Federico, il 1 agosto 1797, ottenne investitura del feudo San Giovanni e il 16 giugno 1808 del feudo San Lorenzo. Con D. M. del 14 giugno 1925 i titoli di barone di San Lorenzo e signore di San Giovanni vennero confermati in persona di Salvatore. La famiglia levò per arme. D'azzurro
