Die alte Familie Messina, genannt De Stefani oder De Stefano, ist seit dem 15. Jahrhundert bekannt. Girolamo war 1650/1 strategischer Richter in Messina und 1652/3 am Großen Strafgerichtshof des Königreichs. Guglielmo, der am 7. März 1710 in Madrid das Privileg erhielt, am 15. Januar 1711 in Messina zum Exekutivdirektor ernannt zu werden, erhielt die Konzession des Titels des Herzogs von San Lorenzo. Carlo Luigi, Sohn des Vorgängers, Herzog von San Lorenzo, "königlicher Ritter" für Beobachtungsschreiben vom 7. Dezember 1726, war im Jahr 1734 in Scicli prokonservativ; Giuseppe war 1737/78 Senator von Messina; Antoninus erwarb 1787 das Lehen von San Lorenzo; Antonino Federico erhielt am 1. August 1797 die Investitur des Lehens San Giovanni und am 16. Juni 1808 des Lehens San Lorenzo. Mit DM vom 14. Juni 1925 wurden die Titel des Barons von San Lorenzo und des Herrn von San Giovanni in der Person von Salvatore bestätigt. Die Familie
