Très illustre maison de la Bretagne, d'une haute antiquité, dont les premiers auteurs connus sont: Hugnes, croisé en 1218 (Chartes latines de 1191 à 1249 relatives aux croisés, provenant du cabinet Courtois); Hervé, épouse vers 1250 Anastase, dame du Fresnay, dont Maurice, marié: à Marie Chabot, à Isabeau de Rochefort; du premier lit: Hervé, marié en 1336 à Aliénor, dame de Ruffec; François, prisonnier devant Pavie en 1511 et chambellan ordinaire de Louis XII épouse: en 1503 Françoise d'Amboise, en 1516 Jeanne du Chastellier; du premier lit: René, marié à Catherine de Montauban, dame du Bois-de-la-Roche et de Saint-Brice, père et mère de Philippe, chevalier des ordres du Roi en 1582; lieutenant-général aux gouvernements d'Angoumois, Saintonge et Aunis, mort en 1586; deux maréchaux de camp en 1627 et 1719; un abbé de Lanvaux en 1713; un lieutenant-général des armées du Roi en 1746, commandant en Bretagne, mort en 1751. La branche de Ruffiec fondue dans l'Aubespine; la branche du Bois-de-la-Roche fondue dans l'Olivier de Saint-Maur; la branche de Saint-Brice fondue dans Guérin de la Grasserie.
