Ancient and noble German family, known as (von) Voß, (de) Vos or Voss, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. Tradition has it it is one of the oldest families of Mecklenburg which belonged to the primeval nobility of the country and was first mentioned in a document on May 15, 1253 with Johannes Vulpes (meaning fox in Latin), councillor of Nicholas I, Lord of Werle. Over time, the Latin name Vulpes took the form of the Low German name "Voß".
