Antica, nobile ed assai potente famiglia campana, detta del Grosso o Del Grosso con residenza in Colle Sannita, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Nel registro intitolato "Descrizzione dello Stato dell'Anime della Parrocchial Chiesa di San Giorgio della Terra del Colle", compilato nel 1691, tale famiglia risulta rappresentata dal "Dottor Fisico don Torquato del Grosso", nato nel 1652 dal "Magnifico" Matteo Del Grosso, coniugato con Pompilia Alderisio (n. 1659), figlia del nobile notaio Francesco. Dal figlio Pietro Del Grosso (1682), dottore fisico, registrato con i vari titoli di "Magnifico", "Signore" e "Don", sposato con la nobildonna Felicia Monachella di Riccia (Cb), discende la famosa dinastia dei Del Grosso collesi, proprietaria di un palazzo nobiliare nella piazza centrale del paese. Nel 1756, nel palazzo Del Grosso risultano risiedere: "il Dottor Fisico Pietro Del Grosso, vedovo della Signora Felicia Monachella, di anni 74" ed i figli suor Anna (1717),
