Antica ed assai nobile famiglia Toscana, nota a Firenze sin dall'anno 1409, trasferitasi primieramente a Pisa, poi a Pietrasanta ed infine, dal secolo decimo settimo, a Carrara. Dai duchi Estensi, tal illustre casata ebbe la nobiltà di Novellara ed il titolo di conte, per il ramo maschile, e dal granduca Pietro Leopoldo di Toscana la nobiltà di Pisa. Con Decreto ministeriale 15 gennaio 1903, i membri della famiglia Del Medico furono riconosciuti dalla Consulta araldica nobili sia il ramo maschile che quello femminile, conti solamente il ramo maschile. Il conte Cesare Del Medico nacque a Carrara il 12 luglio 1822, fu cavaliere mauriziano e sindaco di Carrara; egli sposò Minerva Casoni, il 20 aprile 1862.
