Apellido riojano. Probó su nobleza en la Orden de Jerusalén, en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid y en la Real Campañía de Guardias Marinas. En Canarias, por devoción a la Virgen del P., patrona de la Diócesis Canariense, muchos de este apellido lo hacen de la partícula "del". Juan del P. natural de Aldeanueva, soltero, hijo de Antonio del P. y de Catalina Hernández, nombrado Juez por decreto de la Compañía de Indias el 2 febrero 1578, emprendió viaje a Nicaragua el 5 enero 1579 desde el puerto de Sevilla, según consta en el Archivo General de Indias. Por otra documentación procedente del mismo archivo, sabemos que hizo gran fortuna y tuvo dos hijos a los cuales reconoció y dotó en su testamento, por lo que suponemos que es uno de los iniciadores de este apellido en América. Otra casa muy antigua. Armas: En campo de azur, una faja de oro, acompañada de cinco piñas de oro, tres arriba y dos abajo.
