Antica famiglia oriunda dalla Brianza. Anselmo fu console di Milano nel 1096; Delfino fabbricò il castello di Pieraccio presso Oggiono che fu tenuto dalla famiglia fino al 1411. Ebbe l'immunità nel 1490, diede decurioni ed un fisico collegiato, ed ebbe il feudo di Rovagnate. Estinta, e ne furono eredi i Marchesi Casati. Il Litta nelle sua opera " Famiglie celebri italiane in foglio, e con lui gli autori concordemente, essere questa una nobile famiglia Lombarda. Nei primi decenni del 1100 in seguito ad un accordo, le quattro classi nobili e cittadine milanesi dei visconti, dei capitani ,dei valvassori (subfeudatari) e dei militi del popolo, costituirono, retto da consoli, il Comune Signorile di Milano che sottraendosi poco a poco alla giursdizione del vescovo separò nettamente i due poteri ecclesiastico e civile.
