Famiglia originaria di Bologna che anticamente si chiamava Dell'atti ma dal nome di un Bolognetto Dell'atti assunsero quello di Bolognetti lasciando l'antico cognome. Il primo dei quali se ne abbia certa memoria fu un Bonocursio che visse nel 1236, un Giacomo fu capitano dei Bolognesi contro il marchese di Ferrara circa il 1350, Antonio di Pietro morì il 3 aprile 1484 insieme a molti altri della sua famiglia per la caduta della Torre dei Bianchi contro la sua casa. Giovanni di Ulisse sposò una Cassandra della nobile famiglia Cavalieri e con questo matrimonio si stabilì in Roma ed ebbe molti figli tra i quali Francesco che fu Conservatore di Roma, ed ottenne la cotea di Vicovaro elevata ai giorni nostri a Principato. Mario fu cavaliere di Malta nel 1630, e capitano di galera nella squadra del Papa mandata in Candia al soccorso di quella piazza. Giacomo figura tra i nobili
