Molte famiglie durante l'occupazione della casa d'Aragona vennero a stabilire propria schiatta al seguito di Federico II in Sicilia. Federico II fu incoronato a Palermo il 1296, non mancarono durante l'occupazione Aragonese le pretensioni della casa d'Angiò e le scomuniche del papa; anche un momento lo stesso Giacomo si mostrò disleale e nemico al fratello ed alla nazione, che l'aveva fedelmente servito. La lotta finì colla prigionia di Filippo d'Angiò, e colla vittoria delle armi siciliane, per cui ne venne la pace di Caltabellotta che chiudeva la guerra tra gli Angioini e gli Aragonesi. Federico II era riconosciuto re di Trinacria. Riformò gli ordini del regno, allargò le libertà municipali, rispettò le costituzioni ed i privilegi dell'Isola; e dopo aver intrapreso varie guerre e trionfato, con fama di ottimo re e benemerito dei Siciliani, in Palermo cessò di vivere nel 1336 in età di 65 anni dopo 40 anni di
