Antica e notabile famiglia veneta che vuolsi discendere dai nobili Emo. Tal illustre casata ebbe la sua origine in Grecia, da dove nei tempi remoti si era trasferita nella Dalmazia. Rifuggitasi poi nel 997 a Venezia si distinse a tal punto che, nell'anno 1297, alla serrata del Maggior Consiglio venne compresa fra le famiglie patrizie.
