Família de origem inglesa, descendente de Mathews D., empregado na nossa legação em Londres que veio para Portugal, quando do definitivo regresso do ministro pelinipotenciário Luís Pinto de Sousa Coutinho, 1º visconde de Balsemão, tendo fixado residência em Lisboa onde f. cerca de 1798. Do seu casamento com Gerturdes D. teve um único filho (n. em Londres a 1768 e f. em Lisboa a 12.12.1825), Pedro-Jorge D., cav. professo na o. de S. Tiago (15.5.1798), cav. professo na o. de Cristo, escudeiro fidalgo da C. R. (2.8.1802), acrescentando a cavaleiro fidalgo (mesma data), oficial do conselho e tribunal régio do Almirantado e dos ministérios do Reino e da secretaria de estado dos Negócios estrangeiros e da guerra, "confidente-intérprete"do almirante Jervis, proprietário do ofício de escrivão dos órfãos do sul da cidade de Coimbra, com uma vida a favor de seu filho primogénito (5.5.1814). Pedro-Jorge D. casou em Lisboa, na freguesia de S. Mamede, a 27.11.1797, com D. Gertrudes-Margarida Rodrigues (n. na mesma freguesia, a 29.4.1778) filha de Nicolau-António Rodrigues, proprietário, familia do Santo Ofício, administrador do vínculo de capela de S. João das Lampas, termo de Sintra (23.8.1777) e mulher D. Domingas-Maria Gomes. Tiveram, pelo menos, doze filhos, mas só um deixou descendência: Eduardo-Samuel D., oficial do ministério da Fazenda, fidalgo da C. R. (n. na freguesia da Lapa, de Lisboa, a 23.8.1811).
