Ancienne et illustre famille sarde, de vertu claire et ancestrale, répartie au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. Selon ce qui nous est transmis, il appartient à la même prosapia des Murta, nobles de Sorgono, dont les branches, au fil du temps, ont été transcrites en De Murta, De Murtas ou Demurtas. Selon certaines reconstructions héraldiques, les (de) Murta ou Demurtas auraient leurs origines les plus anciennes dans la République de Gênes d'où, au cours du XIVe siècle, ils se sont déplacés vers la Sardaigne. Amico fut ambassadeur à Constantinople en 1157 et 1168 ; Gherardo était consul des placites en 1204 et avant c'était Henry en 1181; Ido appartenait aux anciens en 1260 comme Nicolò en 1396 ; Giovanni était doge en 1345. Ce qui est certain, c'est que ces formes de patronyme sont présentes dans les documents anciens de l'histoire et de la langue de la Sardaigne.
