Originaria di Genova, pare che sia stata portata in Palermo da Stefano, senatore di Palermo, barone di S. Stefano per privilegio 13 maggio 1652 e marchese d'Alimena come marito di Dorotea Alimena e Colnago, titolo che Dorotea Benso di Girolamo, di Stefano predetto, portò in casa del Bosco. Un Giulio Denso, senatore di Palermo negli anni 1708-9, 1720-21-22, 1734-35-36, 1744-45-46, per la moglie Eleonora Landolina e Leofante fece entrare in sua famiglia i titoli di duca e barone della Verdura che, all'abolizione della feudalità, erano in potere di Giulio (di Francesco, di Giulio predetto) investito a 26 luglio 1808; un Francesco duca e barone della Verdura fu pretore della città di Palermo 1849, intendente dal 1850 al 1858, gentiluomo di camera di re Ferdinando II; Giulio e San Martino duca e barone della Verdura, patriota egregio, fu pretore di Palermo 1860 poi molte volte sindaco della stessa città e fu
