Presume discendere da un Giovanni Denti di Ravenna, luogotenente imperiale in Italia nel 724 e signore di Balugolo, in quel di Padova. Secondo il Villabianca (Sicilia Nobile vol. II pag. 111) fu portata in Messina nel 1248 da un Alberto. Un Simone nobile di Messina, come marito di Giovanna d'Abruzzo o Labruzzo, possedette il feudo Raneri 1340; un Giacomo fu dottore in leggi, giudice della Gran Corte del Regno 1399, conservatore del regno, ambasciatore di Sicilia presso la Santa Sede; un Andrea sotto i Martini possedette il feudo di Resuttano; un Roberto (figlio di Giovanni, figlio di Simone e di Giovanna Labruzzo) ottenne a 25 aprile 1442 investitura di Raneri; un Lucio, barone di Raneri fu giudice della Gran Corte del Regno nel 1643-44-45, presidente dello stesso Tribunale nel 1639 e fu primo barone di Castellazzo in sua famiglia; un Vincenzo Denti e Averna, del detto Lucio, fu barone di
