Jean-Louis était chevalier d'honneur en 1784, et, comme ceux qui acquéraient ce titre dans la magistrature étaient anoblis, ensemble leurs enfants et postérité, pourvu qu'ils mourussent revêtus de cet office ou qu'ils l'eussent possedé pendant vingt ans accomplis, il est incontestable que le titulaire remplissait ces conditions, puisqu'en 1789, dans une assemblée particulière de la noblesse de Libourne, réunie pour donner de nouveaux pouvoirs à ses députés aux États-Généraux, figure un Des Moulins de Leybardie. On voit également dans l'Etat militaire de 1788 un lieutenant au régiment du Perche. Les bonnes alliances de cette famille sont encore une preuve évidente que les nom et armes doivent avoir leur place dans le nobiliaire de la province.
