Famiglia di antiche origini, che si stabilì nel Trentino nel secolo XV proveniente dalla Moravia, dove sembra avesse posseduto terre e castelli. Nell'ottobre 1537 Giovanni, Antonio e Nicola furono creati nobili del Tirolo dal cardinale Bernardo, principe vescovo di Trento, con l'aggiunta di un cane levriero all'antica arma consistente in due bande d'argento in campo rosso. Questa concessione fu confermata dall'imperatore Ferdinando il 30 sett. 1560 colla iscrizione nella matricola dei nobili tirolesi. L'imperatore Rodolfo II, con Diploma 31 dic. 1584 dato in Praga, innalzò i fratelli Giovanni, Antonio, Pietro e Giacomo alla nobiltà equestre ereditaria del S.R.I. Da questo ceppo si staccarono, sul finire del Cinquecento, vari rami, tra i quali sembra anche quello della famiglia dei baroni de Zigno; nel Trentino, e precisamente a Cavereno in Val di Non, viveva il ramo che solamente sul finire del secolo scorso si stabilì in provincia di
