Antica ed assai nobile famiglia siciliana ritenuta essere una diramazione della famiglia di Benedictis o Benedetto, ma la questione non è confermata. Ad ogni modo notizie continue, precise, convalidate da documenti e rogiti fino dalla seconda metà del XVIII secolo nella persona di Raffaele, giudice pretoriano di Palermo nell’anno 1798, giudice della Gran Corte Criminale nel 1808-9. Prese tale famiglia non poca parte agli avvenimenti politici che portarono all’unità d’Italia. Un Carlo, ex console del principato di Monaco in Sicilia, ottenne, per sé e suoi, il patriziato della repubblica di Marino; sposò la nobil donna Ippolita Papè dei principi di Valdina ed è padre di Giovanni. Arma: inquartato: nel 1° e 4° d’argento, all’aquila spiegata di nero, afferrante con gli artigli un tridente dello stesso: nel 2° e 3° di rosso, al leopardo illeonito d’oro.
