Antica famiglia, originaria di Parma, le cui prime vestigia rimandano al secolo XIII, nel quale appaiono, in rogiti di compravendita di immobili, alcuni personaggi di tal casato. Pietro "Bonus" de Di Bono fu uno dei capi della rivolta del 1477 contro la fazione dei Rossi di Parma (Angeli, La historia di Parma, Parma, Viotto, 1591, lib. IV, pag. 396); Genesio figura nell'elenco degli anziani della "squadra ducale" negli statuti Parmensi del 1494 (Statuta magnificae civit. Parma, Parmae, Ang. Ugoletus, MCCCCXCIIII, c.1) e dopo di lui nelle Provigioni comunali sono elencati come membri dell'anzianato un Benedetto, un Alessandro, un Giovanni, un Francesco, un Pietro, un Cosmo e un Bartolomeo, capo degli anziani. Nella: "Matricola dei notai di Parma" si trovano inscritti: Pietro di Antonio all'an. 1430, Giovanni di Pietro, an. 1469, Genesio di Pietro, an. 1476, Cosma di Pietro, an. 1481, Sigismondo di Pietro, 1486, Benedetto di Genesio, an. 1505, Giangaspare
