Família siciliana antiga e muito nobre, de virtude clara e ancestral, com residência em Girgenti (Agrigento), Naro e Vizzini e decorada com os títulos de Nobile dei Marchesi e Marchesi, que se espalharam ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Itália. A primeira personagem da qual temos certas informações históricas é Giuseppe Ponzio que, em 6 de março de 1607, obteve o feudo da propriedade de terras denominadas Sonnaro, no território de Girgenti. Posteriormente, notamos um Gaspare com a posição de proconservador de Girgenti, no ano de 1632. Além disso, essa família, no desenrolar de seu brilho, sempre conseguiu produzir uma série de homens que tornaram famoso seu nome em empregos públicos, em profissões liberais e eclesiásticas e no serviço militar. Entre eles, sem arriscar nada ao valor dos omitidos, estão: Antonino, nobre jurado de Naro em 1791-92 e capitão da justiça da mesma cidade em 1797-98; Giuseppe, jurado

D’argento, all’albero nodrito nella punta dello scudo, sostenuto a sinistra da un leoncino, coronato d’oro, il tutto al naturale, accompagnato in capo, a destra da tre stelle di rosso, ordinate in sbarra, a sinistra da un’ombra di sole di rosso, orizzonte sinistro, il tutto con una bordatura composta di rosso e d’argento.
