Esta família antiga e nobre é originária da cidade de Tramonti, perto de Amalfi, chamada Di Maio, Di Maggio, Maio ou Di Maio. É um senhor feudal desde a época dos reis da Suábia e, na época, era dividido em vários ramos que passavam pelas cidades de Brescia, Como, Cremona, Milão e Veneza. Esta família gozava de nobreza na cidade de Nápoles, na sede de Montagna, Tramonti, Cápua, Benevento 1671, Foggia, Lucera, Andria, Catanzaro, Cosenza, Castelvetere, Montescaglioso e Massalubrense, e na Sicília. Ele vestiu o traje de Malta em 1564. A família Di Maggio também foi atribuída ao Livro Dourado, como pertencente ao Mountain Seat, nos dois ramos dos duques de San Pietro e do marquês Maggio Durazzo.
