Ancient and noble family of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, of clear and ancestral virtue, spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy and Europe. According to what was narrated by the Messinese historian and genealogist Giuseppe Galluppi, the Maggio family first had a cradle in the Neapolitan area from which it then moved to Messina, enjoying nobility since the sixteenth century. Over time the family has however divided into several lines, some of which have also flourished in the Agrigento and Trapani areas. The famous genealogist Giovan Battista Crollalanza also deals with this noble family, in the volumes of his "Historical-blasonic dictionary of extinct and flourishing Italian noble and notable families". Among the characters who most illustrated the Maggio family, we remember: Giovan Vincenzo and Pietro di Maggio, both doctors, so distinguished in facing the plague of 1624 in Castelvetrano; Francesco di Maggio, composer active in Sicily
