Famiglia spagnola, che, primieramente, pose piede in suolo italiana, trapiantandosi nella città di Ventimiglia, da cui si distaccò un ramo, per trapiantarsi nel regno di Napoli, al tempo di Carlo d'Angiò, il quale, nel 1274, concesse ad un Restagno Di Massa il feudo di S. Giorgio, con titolo baronale. Sappiamo, inoltre, che, nel 1555, Giacomo, nobile napoletano, era in possesso del feudo baronale di Casavetere e Francavilla, ed Agostino, dopo essere stato riconosciuto nel 1715 cittadino e nobile napoletano, conseguiva nel 1731 la nobiltà riminese, e l'anno seguente quella della Repubblica di S. Marino, nel 1750 otteneva il riconoscimento della nobiltà napoletana, e nel 1765 entrava in possesso del feudo di Pescasseroli col titolo di barone e col diritto del mero e misto impero, in principio del XV secolo un ramo della famiglia napoletana Di Massa si trapiantò in Sorrento, e nel 1785 fu ricevuto nell'Ordine di Malta.
