Antica famiglia, originaria di Umbertide, la quale vanta come capostipite un Baldo Di Boni, dottore di leggi, che fu il primo a trasferirsi a Cortona. I suoi discendenti si distinsero specialmente nel campo letterario, ma ebbero anche guerrieri in Alfonso di Giorgio e Giovan Battista di Curzio, cavalieri di Rodi nel 1517 e 1667 rispettivamente, mentre Francesco Di Boni fu maestro di campo della Repubblica di Venezia, e da questa ebbe in compenso vari privilegi. Girolamo sposò Elisabetta Di Boni di famiglia patrizia di Cortona, ereditandone il cognome e lo stemma. Ebbe per figlio Giovan Battista, che fu cav. di S. Stefano ed ebbe da Napoleone il titolo di barone. Questi fu arciconsolo della Crusca nel 1817 e governatore di Siena nel 1829.
