Antica ed assai nobile famiglia del Regno delle Due Sicilie, di chiara ed avita virtù, la quale ha goduto nobiltà in Capua, in Sessa, in Palermo e in Messina, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Essa ha posseduto la terra di Fiumara di Muro e il casale di Calanna, l’ufficio della rantaria di Palermo, il marcato o tenuta di terre nominate lo Fegotto ed è passata all'ordine di Malta nelle persone di Giovan Filippo Di Francesco-Saccano-Spadafora-Saccano, nel 1553, e di Ottavio Di Francesco-Lombardo-Saccano-Arena, nel 1573. La tradizione araldica vuole che capostipite di tal casato sia stato un gentiluomo capuano di nome Francesco, segretario di re Carlo lo Zoppo, il quale divenne, successivamente, governatore della città di Sessa, al tempo di re Roberto. Trapiantata in Sicilia, sotto Alfonso di Castiglia, la famiglia si divise in due rami: uno si stabilì in Palermo ed un altro in Messina. Un
