Di questo casato si trova menzione in documenti dell'archivio dell'Abbazia di Amalfi dove sono ricordati Pietro di Leone e successivamente Ursone che fu Stratigoto di Ravello alla fine del secolo XII. Con R.D. 11 ottobre 1928, Francesco di Alberto, dott. in giurisprudenza originario di Ravello, ha conseguito la rinnovazione del titolo di barone (mpr.), e nelle relative RR. LL. PP. in data 21 febbraio 1929 gli è stata riconosciuta l'arma gentilizia. La famiglia ha partecipato alla storia di Napoli ed alle sue vicende durante i trascorsi, concorrendo non poco alla nobiltà e alle cariche istituzionali della stessa città, fatte dai re che hanno regnato nel Ducato di Napoli.
