Come si legge nel manoscritto del Torresani sopra le illustri famiglie di Verona, e come vedesi in altre memorie, la casa Dionisi di nobile origine normanna venne in Verona circa l'anno 1186 al tempo della crociata sotto Federico Barbarossa. L'illustre capostipite di lei, che diede il nome alla famiglia suddetta nel secolo duodecimo, fu un Dionisio padre di Gaffardo Podestà di Cerea nel 1211. Nello stesso secolo ebbero tale distinta carica Corrado, Nicolò e Paolo. Un altro Dionisio figlio di Corrado fu creato Cavaliere circa il 1245. Giovanni fu caro allo Scaligero Cansignorio, ed a suo nome presedette alla costruzione del ponte delle Navi e delle mura della città fino alla porta detta anticamente della Paglia. La Veneta Republica nel 1710 accordò ai primogenti Dionisi il titolo di Marchese, ed ai secondogeniti quello di Conte, titoli confermati da S. M. I. Francesco I.
