Como leemos en el manuscrito de Torresani sobre las familias ilustres de Verona, y como se ve en otras memorias, la casa Dionisi de origen nobiliario normando llegó a Verona hacia el año 1186 en la época de la cruzada de Federico Barbarroja. Su ilustre progenitor, que dio el nombre a la mencionada familia en el siglo XII, fue Dionisio padre de Gaffardo Podestà de Cerea en 1211. En el mismo siglo Corrado, Nicolò y Paolo tenían este cargo distinto. Otro Dionisio, hijo de Corrado, fue creado Caballero alrededor de 1245. Giovanni era querido por Scaliger Cansignorio, y en su nombre presidió la construcción del Ponte delle Navi y las murallas de la ciudad hasta la antigua Porta della Paglia.
