Famiglia di origine ferrarese. In essa si è estinta l'antica famiglia Navarra Ploti. I Navarra sono un ramo dei conti Novara estinti nel 1785 nel cote Agostino, che lasciò erede il comune di Ferrara. I Novara discendono dal celebre architetto militare Bartolomeo Ploti da Novara, che costruì il meraviglioso castello estense. Celebre è pure Domenico Maria Novara, matematico e astronomo, morto nel 1514. Il duca di Mantova creò conti di Odolengo i Novara nel 1635 ma essi vendettero il feudo ai Gozzani nel 1688. Sua Maestà il re con Regio Decreto motu proprio rinnovò il titolo di conte a Francesco Navarra Ploti, nobile di Ferrara, morto senza figli il 17 giugno 1916, con trasmissibilità al nipote ex sorore Ugo al quale con Regio Decreto 3 maggio 1917, Regie Lettere patenti 30 agosto 1917 venne concesso lo stemma sopra descritto.
