Antica e nobile famiglia di Milano. Il commendator G.B. di Crollalanza riporta la blasonatura di questa famiglia nei volumi del suo Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane. Il Litta nelle sua opera " Famiglie celebri italiane in foglio, e con lui gli autori concordemente, essere questa una nobile famiglia Lombarda. Nei primi decenni del 1100 in seguito ad un accordo, le quattro classi nobili e cittadine milanesi dei visconti, dei capitani ,dei valvassori (subfeudatari) e dei militi del popolo, costituirono, retto da consoli, il Comune Signorile di Milano che sottraendosi poco a poco alla giursdizione del vescovo separò nettamente i due poteri ecclesiastico e civile.
