Non pare che l'attuale famiglia abbia nulla di comune con l'antica famiglia, nota ai tempi dei re Martino ed Alfonso e che possedette la baronia del Ponte del caricatore del mare di Catania, e che armò in altro modo. Michele D. Morello ottenne con Regio Decreto 21 maggio 1903 concessione dello stemma e, come figlio di Vincenzo e di Teresa Morello, ebbe con Regie Lettere Patenti dell'otto luglio 1903 riconoscimento del titolo di barone della salina di Fragiovanni (già di casa Morello). Nel libro d'oro della nobiltà italiana sono pure iscritti i fratelli di detto barone Michele: Pietro, Anna, Eugenio, Leonardo e Vincenzo. Altro ramo. Originaria di Spagna e signora del ponte Marittimo. Altra famiglia alzò per arma. Di rosso, al destrocherio armato d'argento, impugnante in sbarra una torcia dello stesso, fiammeggiante di rosso, accendente un rogo al naturale sopra un terrazzo del medesimo.
