Antico ed assai nobile casato spagnolo originario di Orozco, nella provincia di Biscaglia, propagatosi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni di Spagna e del Mondo. Secondo quanto ci viene tramandato, i fratelli Doncel accompagnarono re Ferdinando Alfonso, detto il Santo, durante la presa di Jaén e l'assedio di Siviglia. Proprio a Jaén i due stabilirono la propria casa. L'origine di tal cognome va però ricercato in tempi più antichi. Le cronache narrano infatti che nel 930, quando il Signore di Biscaglia D. Lope Díaz de Haro andò in aiuto del Conte Fernán González in Castiglia, affidò sua moglie al cavaliere Antón Díaz, in qualità di paggio di corte ("doncel"). Al suo ritorno, soddisfatto dei servigi resi, D. Lope Díaz de Haro lo autorizzò ad assumere il cognome Doncel. Il cavalier Antón Díaz morì senza discendenza ma il di lui fratello Juanes, ed i suoi successori, assunsero il medesimo cognome.
