Famiglia così chiamata da Don Donino Bassani figlio di Orlandino di Borgo San Donnino nel Parmigiano. Era prete benefiziato della cattedrale di Verona nel 1405, poi Arciprete di S. Giovanni in Fonte nel 1413, e finalmente Canonico nel 1460. Nel seguente secolo Teodosio fu Vicario della Casa de' Mercanti. Agostino e Mario furono Podestà di Peschiera, e Federico nel 1644 fu aggregato al Collegio dei Giudici. Bartolomeo nel 1432, e Jacopo nel 1517 si leggono iscritti col cognome Bassani nel Consiglio Nobile, e con quello di Dondonini nel 1575 il Conte Teodosio, ed altri fino al Conte Giuseppe che vi fu aggregato nel 1783. Un'altra illustre famiglia Bassani nel XVI secolo da Brescia passò ad abitare in Verona.
