Antica famiglia oriunda da Milano, chiamata un tempo de' Pedroni, come appare da una genealogia della famiglia stampata a Bologna nel 1650 nell'occasione del dottorato di un signor Nicola di Carpi, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia e del Mondo. La nobiltà di Carpi fu concessa con riforma del 28 novembre 1818 a Giambattista, di Pietro Donelli e di Anna Caleffi, e ai suoi discendenti maschi legittimi in perpetuo: Giuseppe, di Luigi, di Giambattista. Marsilio, di Benedetto, di Antonio, di Giambattista, nato il 9 giugno 1875. Figli: Benedetto, nato il 31 luglio 1899; Enrico Gaetano, nato il 17 agosto 1900; Anna, nata il 21 dicembre 1901; Maria, nata il 30 settembre 1904. Sorella: Emma, nata il 13 maggio 1868.
