Família muito antiga e nobre, que era a dama do feudo de Villanova e dizia personagens ilustres, especialmente na carreira eclesiástica. Nas lembranças de tempos passados, lemos algumas variantes desse sobrenome, devido às causas usuais da fonética histórica, pronúncia do dialeto e a maneira de interpretar sobrenomes nas escrituras. Giuseppe Donzelli, foi arcebispo de Sorrento em 1574, e Vincenzo bispo de Sulmona, criado por São Pio V. Atualizações heráldicas do século XVIII não existem mais no ramo original dessa família. Outro ramo. Família antiga e nobre originária de Bolonha. O comendador GB de Crollalanza relata o brasão desta família nos volumes de seu histórico dicionário de brasões das nobres e notáveis famílias italianas. Outro ramo. Família antiga e nobre originária de Bergamo. A família levantou suas armas. Prata e azul com ameias enxertadas e cortadas.
