Nella città di Sacile fioriva sulla fine del sec. XVII una famiglia appartenente alla Università dei Popolari, che era il secondo ordine cittadinesco di Sacile. Probabilmente, da questa è discesa la famiglia comitale, la di cui prima notizia sicura non risale oltre un dottore Leonardo di Bernardino, medico fisico, che con decreto del senato veneto 4 maggio 1754 ebbe la concessione del titolo di conte e con terminazione del magistrato sopra feudi dell'8 maggio 1754, l'iscrizione nell'A.L.T. Lo stesso Dott. Leonardo, nel successivo anno 1755, ebbe l'investitura del feudo di Costa di Vernassino nel territorio di Cividale, che era della nobile famiglia Gallo, con l'obbligo di fornire 75 uomini d'arme. Morto Leonardo (Gambararo 20 marzo 1758), successero i figli Giovanni, Sebastiano e Francesco, il primo dei quali ai 15 settembre del 1779 fu ascritto al Consiglio nobile di Sacile. Il Conte Francesco, figlio di detto Giovanni, ottenne dal governo austriaco
