Vecchia famiglia senese, il cui cognome era in origine Cosatti, e che fu ascritta alla Nobiltà di Siena per deliberazione di quella Balia del 22 gennaio 1612, approvata dal Granduca il 31 dicembre dello stesso anno. Fece parte della Signoria nel 1642 e nel 1647. Giovan Battista di Piero risedette in Concistoro nel 1650 e Pietro suo figlio fu innalzato al grado supremo di capitano del popolo nel 1699; la stessa carica fu occupata dal 1717 da Giuseppe e nel 1721 da Bartolomeo, figli di Piero predetto. Antonio di Giuseppe ottenne per giustizia l'abito di S. Stefano il 22 aprile 1738. Furono iscritti nei libri d'oro della Nobiltà di Siena, in osservanza alla legge sulla nobiltà del 1750, con decreto 4 marzo 1754. Ernesto, di Cesare, di Ferdinando. Figlio: Mario. Figlia di Mario: Anna Maria.
