Ancienne famille, déjà noble avant 1626, année où elle fut agrégée au noble Conseil de Padoue, appelé Dottori ou Dottor, réparti au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. Il a reçu le titre de comte, par décret du 19 mars 1676 du Sénat de Vénétie, conféré aux descendants de Giulio Dottori, en mérite des services qu'il a rendus dans sa carrière militaire. Il obtint la confirmation de la noblesse par résolution souveraine le 21 mars 1819, et celle du titre comtal en 1829. Alessandro Dottori, distingué docteur en droit, eut la fierté d'être l'un de ces patriciens qui en 1413 découvrirent les ossements de Tito Livio , auteur des contes romains ; Giacomo Dottori, était abbé commendataire de la Badia di Praglia, tandis que le comte Carlo Dottori, était un poète lyrique distingué.
