Família de Castela, que parece ter passado a Portugal por diversas vezes. O apelido deve provir de alcunha. Em tempo de D. Afonso V, veio de Castela João Peres D.. Também passou a Portugal, proveniente do mesmo Reino, Rui D., hemem fidalgo, pai de Manuel D., que foi comendador de S. Salvador do Souto, no termo de Guimarães. Este Manuel D. recebeu-se em Évora com Filipa de Macedo, filha de João Gonçalves de Macedo e de Isabel Gomes Rebelo, a qual Filipa de Macedo tinha conversação com o bispo de Évora, D. Afonso, filho do Marquês de Valença, de quem tivera dois filhos e uma filha, quando ele ainda era secular, e a quem ele casou, dando-lhe por dote a quinta da Sempre Noiva, junto da Évora, em que ela já vivia, e que, segundo a tradição, recebeu o nome de Sempre Noiva pelas muitas visitas que o bispo lhe fazia. Deste matrimónio nasceu Rui Drago de Portugal, que seus descendentes pretendem ser filho do bispo por sua mãe se achar grávida de cinco meses quando casou. Deixou geração de dois matrimónios que contraiu e de uma escrava. Timbre: um dragão do escudo.
