Famiglia generata da Ridolfo Signore d'Asisi, che fu padre di Oddone, di Diopoldo, e di Rinaldo. Il primo morì militando con cariche principali a servizi dell'Imperatore Arrigo Sesto, e non si sà se lasciasse di sè stesso figliuoli. Diopoldo si legge, che l'anno 1191. fosse Vicerè di Napoli; e nel 1194. Duca di Puglia, come vuole il Pellini dell'Istoria di Perugia dicendo, che Arrigo Imperatore udita la morte di Tancredi Re di Sicilia, lo dichiarò Duca di Toscana, e delle Terre della Contessa Matilde Filippo suo fratello, Marcovaldo Duca di Ravenna, e Marchese d'Ancona, Corrado anche egli suo fratello Duca di Spoleto, e Diopoldo Dragoni Duca di Puglia. Del 1209, poi fu dall'Imperatore Ottone Quarto creato Duca di Spoleti, e Conte di Acerra, con il titolo anche di Signore 'Asisi, il qual dominio era già stato perso dalla sua Casa. In un'antichissima Cronica, che era del prenominato Iacobilli si legge,
