Nobilissima ed antica famiglia, la cui remota origine si confonde con quella della famiglia Bazzano, dalla quale discende. Tal illustre casato, ebbe, sin dal 1178 la signoria del feudo di Brazzano; nel 1362 quella di Orsa e Paterno; quella di Ripalta nel 1495, ed il titolo baronale di Campana, avuto per ragione di matrimonio, nel 1718. Oltre il marchesato, conferito dal Re di Spagna Filippo V al Generale Biagio D. e ai suoi discendenti, questa casa ottenne l'onore del patriziato romano con diplomi del 20 Giugno 1620, e 23 Marzo 1699. Inoltre, la famiglia, nel corso dei secoli, sempre riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, ricordiamo: Paolo, dal 1349 al 1377, Vescovo di Ascoli-Piceno e di L'Aquila; Dragonetti, maestro di campo del Re Ladislao e della Regina Giovanna; Giovanni, governatore del castello di Rocca di
