Deriva da un barone tedesco di nome Rodolfo venuto in Italia nel 963. Di Rodolfo Dragoni che signoreggiò qualche tempo la patria, fu nepote Ventura, uno dei 24 Nobili Assisani presenti alla canonizzazione del V. e M. S. Stanislao da Cracovia compiuta in Assisi da Papa Innocenzo IV nel 1253, ed esiste la sua arma nel cimiterio di S. Francesco. Ebbe a figli Nicolò frate minore, e da taluni anche ammesso vescovo di Assisi, e Confidato, che tornato dalla ghibellina alla parte guelfa per voler del Pontefice sostituì nel campo rosso del suo scudo alle tre teste di drago che si vedevano, un corpo e collo di drago, ma con testa di colomba che tiene nel becco la scritta Tempora distingue. E pare che d'allora i Dragoni fossero detti Confidati (v. q. n.). Un Dragone Dragoni che vivea nel 1335 fu il primo Cav. Gerosolim. dell'Umbria. Altro ramo. Non è
