Fu una delle più antiche e nobili famiglie bresciane. Secondo gli studi di Monsignore Luigi Fè, sembra che essa discendesse dai famosi conti rurali che ebbero vasta signoria dello stesso ceppo dei signori di Gardone Reiviera, di Montichiari, e di Marcaria. Capostipite dovrebbe essere stato quel Lanfranco I, conte di Casalodo, che, vissuto nel 1129, si sottomise al Vescovo ed al Comune e venuto a stabilirsi in Brescia, fu uno dei "milites" bresciani nella Lega Lombarda. Fu suo figlio Obizone I Console di Brescia nel 1190 e nel 1200; egli sembra essere stato il padre di Lanfranco II e di Milione il primo dei quali ebbe Obizone II e Raimbaldo che appaiono, in un atto del 1206, assieme ad altri fratelli, a giurare la pace fra Brescia, Crema, Parma e Bergamo.
