This illustrious house which for two centuries appeared in the events of Friuli, was first vassal of the Marquises of Istria, then of the patriarchs of Aquileia and finally declared itself vassal of the house of Austria. She was a lady not only of the fortress or castle of Duino, but of the whole Karst and of the castle of Prem on the upper Timavo, and she also had captains general and commanders of arms of the Counts of Gorizia.
